How to set up a workflow

Understand the difference between an instruction plan and an importable automation.

Updated 19 October 2026

Before you start

Have a task and sample inputs ready. Check the resource’s compatible tools, access requirements, and license. Any AI provider or automation platform may charge separately.

Step by step

  1. Check the resource format. The current YourPrompt workflow collection contains instruction plans; these cannot be imported as n8n or Make workflow files.
  2. For an instruction plan, identify the trigger, inputs, actions, approval points, and expected result. Adapt the steps to your tools.
  3. If you obtain a platform-native workflow package, follow its author’s import instructions, check required app connections, and add credentials within the platform.
  4. Test with sample data, inspect the output and error path, then learn how to pause it before enabling any scheduled or external actions.

If something does not work

If import fails, confirm that you have a native file for your platform and version. Renaming an instruction document to JSON does not make it importable. Review third-party usage costs separately.
